6. Connecting flights to KLM

1. What should you do what should you do if your flight is delayed?

KLM is an airline that provides full-service services and has its hub located at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

Are KLM an airline that is reliable? It certainly is. Actually, it's one of the world's top airline companies, according to Skytrax. It's also the oldest. But even KLM isn't protected against flight delays. The airline doesn't have protection against delays. Every airline is not perfect. However, some airlines do it better than other airlines.

What should you do What should you do if what to do if your KLM delay is causing delays to your flight?

1.1 If you're at home

If you're at home, even though you are aware of the delay:

If you don't have it checked your flight status online.

We would suggest FlightStats as well as Flightradar24.

Next , visit the official website of the airport you're departing from to determine the possibility that the flight you are on will be the sole one to be delayed. Perhaps it's a lengthy list of flights that are delayed too. If the former is the case then it's probably something major, like severe weather or security concerns or security issues, and you might have to be at your home for a time. Otherwise stay at home a bit extra, while following your KLM flight status, and proceed in the same manner as you planned.

Have you got another flight you might miss?

If it's a flight that connects with KLM regardless of whether it's operated by an airline other than KLM and you're not a passenger, there's no need to be concerned about. Because KLM will handle the issue. Additionally, if you miss the flight KLM will take you to another flight at no cost.

If it's a trip you've booked separately Consider the way you'll deal with it.

1.2 If you're at the airport

Follow the normal procedure, even in the event that you've already registered.

After going through security at the airport, find a place where you can sit and read the information about your flight. Online or on the screens for flight information in the terminal. The information desk is located at the airport, in case you are unsure of the information accessible to you.

If the check-in isn't yet open, most probably they won't be able to open it right now. You'll have to wait to find out more.

Is this the only flight that you can take this morning? Or is there another connection flight?

If you're on an additional flight scheduled through KLM If you do, you're secured and have nothing to be concerned about. If necessary they can put you on a second flight at no cost. If, for instance the flight is delayed, due to this delay you'll be late for your connecting flight.

If you have another flight that you have booked separately, conduct some research to discover what options you have. Are there other routes available and what are they going to price. If you do not make your connecting flight today it is likely that you will need to make a new booking yourself and pay for it out of your pocket.

Yes.

If the airline is at fault Then it's true. In the case of example when there's an technical issue on your aircraft and due to that you arrive three or more hours over time.

Let's look at two examples. So you can understand better what are the main differences in traditional and low cost airlines which do not provide connecting flights.

Example 1 - Wizz Air

There are two flights available.

London to Paris and Paris to Dubai within a couple of hours.

Your London to Paris flight has been delayed and you won't be able to make it on time for the flight.

You purchase a brand fresh flight ticket between Paris towards Dubai.

It was the first one, London between London and Paris, was over 3 hours in the air. The fault was Wizz Air's. Now , you're eligible for compensation for delays in your flight.

However, only for the initial flight, this flight.

Since Wizz Air does't sell connecting flights. And despite the fact that your second flight, which you booked in the last minute, could have cost you a couple of hundred euros even though it's possible that it could have been more expensive and you're not able to change it. Wizz Air is not responsible for it. You didn't make the flight. It's your responsibility.

This is exactly what happens when it comes to "connecting flights" with low-cost airlines.

Learn more about Wizz Air.

Example 2 - KLM

Let's say that your route is the identical.

The KLM journey between London until Paris is delayed and you're not able to reach the connecting flight from Paris until Dubai. If the airline is responsible you may be entitled to compensation for delays in your flight for the entire trip.

It doesn't matter if your London flight between London and Paris flight was one or 10 hours delayed.

If you've reached your destination (Dubai in this case) three or more hours late, you may be eligible to a compensation amount in the amount of EUR600. Why 600? Because Dubai is over 3500 kilometers from London According to EU regulations, that's the amount you KLM claims are worth in a scenario such as this.

All you need to do is request it.

You can claim the compensation you received for your KLM reimbursement for your flight.

In addition, you don't need to purchase another flight in any given moment or to pay for anything additional. It's KLM's responsibility.
